The Clay Club Privacy Policy
Last updated 9 October 2026
The Clay Club is a shooting-sports scorekeeping app. This policy explains what the app
collects, why, and who else sees it. It covers the Clay Club iOS and Android apps and
the Clay Club backend service.
What we collect
- Account details. Your email address, and a password unless you sign in
with Apple or Google, plus the username, display name, bio and profile photo you choose.
- Your shooting records. Scores, station-by-station hits and misses,
where you say a miss went, discipline, date, course or club name, gauge, ammunition,
the guns you add to Gun Safe, weather at the time, and any notes you add.
- Scorecard photos and imports. When you scan a card, or bring your
rounds over from another app, the photo, screenshots or export you choose are sent to
our reader service to be turned into rounds.
- What you ask Clay. Ask Clay, Clay's take on a round and station reads
send your question and a summary of your shooting statistics (and, for a station
read, the photo or video frames you choose) to be answered.
- Location. Only when you ask for something that needs it, and only
while the app is open:
- Clubs near you: your rough position, rounded to about 7 miles, is kept on your
phone to sort clubs by distance.
- Shoots near you: if you turn these alerts on, your rough area (to about 7 miles)
and the distance you chose are stored on our servers so we can tell you when a
club nearby posts a shoot. Turning the alerts off deletes them.
- Weather: your position is sent to Open-Meteo to look up the current conditions.
We don't store it.
- Notification tokens. A device token from Apple or Google so we can
send you notifications you have asked for, such as a squad invite.
- Social activity. Friend connections, squads and squad rounds you take
part in, posts, likes and comments, clubs you follow, shoots you sign up for, and, if
you claim a club, the role and contact details you give us so we can confirm it.
- Subscription status. The proof of purchase Apple or Google gives the
app, which we check with them to turn Pro on, and a count of how many of Clay's
answers and card scans you have used against the free allowance.
- Error reports and support requests. When something goes wrong in the
app, a short technical report (the screen, the error, the app version) is sent to us
so we can fix it, linked to your account if you are signed in; and whatever you write
in Report a problem.
What we do not collect
- We do not collect payment card details. Subscriptions are handled entirely by
Apple or Google.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites, show ads, or sell or rent your
information to anyone.
- We do not use your data to train AI models.
Scorecard photos and Clay's answers
Scorecard photos, imports and the questions you ask Clay are sent to Anthropic's Claude
API, which reads them or writes the answer. A scanned photo is used for that single request and
is not stored on our servers afterwards; it stays on your own device unless you delete
the round. Anthropic does not use data submitted through its API to train its models.
Who processes data for us
- Supabase — accounts, database, file storage and notification delivery.
- Anthropic — reading scorecard photos and imports, and writing Clay's answers.
- Vercel — hosting the reader, Clay and error-report services.
- Apple and Google — app distribution, sign-in, subscriptions and push
notifications (Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging on Android).
- Apple Maps and OpenStreetMap — map tiles and club search results.
- Open-Meteo — current weather for where you are shooting.
Who sees what
- Your rounds are visible to you and to the friends you accept.
- Your best score in each discipline can appear on the leaderboards, with your name and
photo, to other signed-in shooters.
- Your posts are visible to you and your friends. A club's announcements, posted by the
people who run it, are public.
- Anyone you block can't see your posts, comments or rounds, or send you notifications.
Deleting your account
You can delete your Clay Club account from inside the app, under your profile. Deleting
removes your account, your rounds, your profile, your posts and comments, and your
notification tokens. This is immediate and cannot be undone. If you would rather we did
it for you, email the address below.
Children
The Clay Club is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their
information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will
remove it.
Your rights
You can access, correct, export or delete your information. Most of this is available
in the app directly; for anything else, email us and we will respond within 30 days.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under the GDPR or the CCPA,
including the right to object to processing and to lodge a complaint with your local
data protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will say so in the app before the
change takes effect.
